Chasing Crops | Alberta Agriculture Photography

Alberta agriculture
I’m anxiously waiting to hit the road again and photograph crops. I have spoken before about my interest in photographing agriculture and if anything, the more I think about it and the more I discuss making prints with my printer chap, the more the interest has increased. These images below are Alberta wheat crops, though I enjoy shooting a different variety of crops. I really enjoy the look of potato crops and hope to add those to my inventory as well as it’s been 3-4 years. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention our Alberta canola crops, which I think are a favourite for many and I’ll definitely add more canola images again this year. Hmmm … it’s time to go through my archives and upload a few canola images to my agriculture and oil gallery now that I think about it.
Love for our farmers …
Many of our farmers took a brutal beating last year due to rubbish weather. As the season carries on and I continue to read the crop reports, I’m crossing my fingers for a much better year for our farmers. They deserve the break so they can continue to carry out their work and end the season with a successful harvest. We owe them everything and I am looking forward to getting out there once again and if I’m lucky, I’ll also be able to photograph some farmers hard at work in their field, as I really enjoy observing and capturing agriculture in motion.
Most of the farmers I’ve been able to speak with over the years – actually, all of them – have been lovely and always seem to appreciate a tip of the hat and are more than happy to return the gesture. Hopefully I’ll be able to shake the hand of a farmer or two this year as I make my way along the fields.
Until then, I’ll continue to appreciate the good work they do and forever be thankful.
See you in the field!
